Bird Illustrations by Louis Agassiz Fuertes

In honor of National Bird Day, I'm featuring beautiful bird illustrations from the wonderful 1919 children's book "The Burgess Bird Book for Children" by Thornton W. Burgess. The stories in this classic book feature talking animals, and teach factual information about how birds and other wild animals behave and survive. The book was illustrated by the renowned American ornithologist and artist Louis Agassiz Fuertes (1874-1927).  He was one of America's most prolific and influential bird artists. The Wilson Ornithological Society instituted an award in his memory in 1947. Cornell University holds collection of his illustrations and personal papers. Click on this link for more information.
